The answer

Al-Wasilah is a special station in Paradise, closer to Allah the Almighty than others, and it is named so due to the proximity of its possessor to Allah. Prioritizing others (Ithar) is not prescribed in acts of worship like "Al-Wasilah," because Allah commanded competition in them, unlike worldly possessions where Ithar is commendable. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was keen on attaining this lofty station. As for his knowledge (peace be upon him) that he would be the one granted this station, no text has been reported to that effect. Scholars have mentioned two possibilities: one is that he did not know, and the second is that he knew but expressed it with hope out of humility.
