The matter of kinship ties is of great importance in Islam. Islamic law encourages maintaining these ties and forbids severing them. Upholding kinship ties is a religious requirement for all relatives; it is not optional or a matter of reciprocation. Whoever severs kinship ties bears the sin for it, and their right to be connected is not forfeited. Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Allah the Almighty said: 'I am Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful). I created the womb (rahim) and derived a name for it from My Name. So whoever keeps its ties, I shall keep My ties with him, and whoever severs its ties, I shall sever My ties with him.'" The one who truly maintains kinship ties is not merely the one who reciprocates, but rather the one who connects with their relatives even when they are disconnected.
