What is the legal ruling regarding a husband who refuses to divorce his ill-behaved wife, whose depravity has been proven by her family with the testimony of three witnesses, and who threatens to sever ties with his kin in order to keep her out of fear for the future of his children, and are the family justified in demanding the divorce?

"Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock. A man is a shepherd over his household and is responsible for them. He must undertake what benefits them in matters of their religion and their worldly life, in accordance with the verse: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire." He must reform himself and his family.

If the husband ascertains his wife's deviation, he must restrain her from it; otherwise, he would be a dayyouth (a cuckold/one who condones indecency for his family). This is because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Three types of people Allah will not look at on the Day of Resurrection: the one who disobeys his parents, the woman who imitates men, and the dayyouth."

The husband's family was correct in their advice, but he erred by ignoring the advice, condoning the deviation, and severing his ties of kinship."
