Is it permissible for a Muslim to perform تحية المسجد (two rak'ahs upon entering the mosque) when entering before Maghrib, knowing that people will look at him with disapproval and astonishment?

If تحية المسجد (two rak'ahs upon entering the mosque) is performed before Maghrib prayer but after the Adhan, there is no harm in it; rather, it is the Sunnah, and whoever objects to someone performing it is mistaken. However, if it is performed before the Maghrib Adhan, scholars have differed concerning the permissibility of performing voluntary prayers during times when prayer is prohibited. The fatwa adopted by us is that it is permissible. If the person entering the mosque waits until the Adhan is called and then prays, it is better, especially if refraining from performing تحية المسجد before sunset can conciliate hearts.
