What is the wisdom behind allowing the Prophet (peace be upon him) to have multiple wives?

Among the unique characteristics of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was marrying more than four women. This was by the command of Allah Almighty, who is the epitome of justice and wisdom. Allah specifically endowed the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with distinct characteristics that set him apart from other prophets, including: being granted victory through terror, having the entire earth made a place of prayer and purification for him, having war spoils made lawful for him, being granted intercession, and being sent to all of humankind.
