The answer

It is permissible to fast voluntarily for seven or ten consecutive days, based on the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast until we would say he would not break his fast, and he would break his fast until we would say he would not fast, and he never completed fasting a whole month except Ramadan, and most of his fasting was in Sha'ban. Also, based on his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying to Hamza ibn Amr al-Aslami when he asked him about fasting while traveling, and he used to fast continuously: "(Fast) if you wish, and break your fast if you wish." Therefore, continuous fasting for some days is permissible and does not fall under perpetual fasting, which is prohibited.
