The answer

There are two types of continuous fasting: The first is fasting on days when it is forbidden, which is unlawful. The second is fasting on the remaining days of the year while breaking fast on the forbidden days. Scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of this second type. Some believe it is permissible, but fasting one day and breaking fast one day is better. Others believe that fasting continuously (fasting the entire year) is better if it does not weaken the fasting person or cause them to neglect a right. It has been established that some Companions and early Muslims used to fast continuously. Continuous fasting is not disliked if one breaks fast on the forbidden days, does not neglect any rights due to it, and does not fear harm from it, even though fasting one day and breaking fast one day is superior. Scholars have responded to the hadith: "He has not fasted who fasted continuously" by explaining that it applies to one who fasts on the forbidden days, or one who does not find difficulty in fasting, or one who is harmed by continuous fasting or neglects a right because of it. The small but continuous good is better than the abundant but interrupted good.
