The answer

The dangers of the soul are forgiven as long as they are not acted upon or spoken about.

To get rid of psychological and satanic whispers (waswas), it is recommended to seek refuge in Allah from them, to turn the heart away from dwelling on evil thoughts, to avoid idleness by filling time with useful deeds, and to prioritize obligatory duties and other important tasks.

To differentiate between thoughts, each thought should be weighed against the scale of Islamic law. The soul that incites evil (nafs al-ammarah bi al-su') commands evil, while the tranquil soul (nafs al-mutma'innah) usually commands good. Satan's whispers are always evil; he commands indecency and tempts, and he might even command some good to divert the servant from what is better.
