Is it true that the Hour's nearness can only be known through divine revelation?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The knowledge of the Hour is among the unseen matters that Allah has exclusively kept for Himself. He has not disclosed it to any close angel or any sent prophet, as He (the Most High) said: (They ask you about the Hour, when will be its appointed time? Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None can reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly.") However, Allah has set signs for it that indicate its proximity, and these signs are also from the unseen. They cannot be known except through Allah's teaching to us in the Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah. As for weak hadiths and narrations from the Children of Israel, they are not to be relied upon. A servant should strive to learn what benefits them and stay away from mere conjecture and illusions.
