The answer

First: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not inform [anyone] about the time of the Hour's establishment because he had no knowledge of it. Wisdom dictates concealing its time from creation, due to the benefit therein of apprehension, which is more conducive to obedience and more deterrent from disobedience, and so that specifying its time does not become a cause for mockery and doubt.

Second: Allah has made signs that indicate the approaching establishment of the Hour to incite people to righteous deeds and to fear Allah. So, whenever a sign is realized, fear and certainty of its proximity increase, and consequently, readiness through righteous deeds increases. This is indicated by the urging to hasten to righteous deeds before these signs occur, because deeds after their occurrence may not be accepted or the doors of repentance may be closed.
