To what extent is the fatwa of Sheikh Atiyya Saqr valid, which permits the use of perfumes containing alcohol, stating that they are pure, do not defile clothes, and prayer is valid while wearing them, according to the four madhhabs?

The alcohol known medically as ethanol is considered an intoxicant (khamr), and the correct view, which is the madhhab of the four imams, is that it is impure (najis), contrary to those who assert its purity. This is based on the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone altars [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful." [Al-Ma'idah:90]. The term "defilement" (rijs) indicates impurity. Furthermore, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded that vessels be washed after contact with intoxicants, which indicates their impurity. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also forbade turning intoxicants into vinegar, which means that it is not permissible to benefit from it as long as it is an intoxicant, and therefore it is not permissible to use it in perfumes or other products.
