What is the truth behind the Prophet's -peace and blessings be upon him- initial refusal of the marriage of Fatimah to Ali -may Allah honor his countenance-, what was the reason for it, and is this true?

It has not been reported in the books of the scholars that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, initially refused the marriage of Fatimah to Ali, may Allah be pleased with them both. The story of their marriage is well-known in the books of Hadith and biographies. It mentions that Ali proposed to Fatimah from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who asked him what he possessed. When Ali mentioned his Hutamiyyah shield, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "I have given them to you in marriage. Send it to her with it, and make it lawful with it."
