What is the reality and essence of Laylat al-Qadr, and does the sky split open during it?

Laylat al-Qadr is a blessed night that Allah has singled out for the revelation of the Qur'an, and spending it in prayer is a cause for the expiation of sins. It is a night better than a thousand months, and whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived. There is no mention or indication that the sky splits open on this night.
