Is it permissible to secretly take a sum of money from the employer with the intention of recovering part of the value of the housing rent that he agreed to pay and then reneged on, and is it permissible to repeat this to recover the rest of the amount?

The relationship between an employee and an employer is governed by the contract concluded between them, whether verbal or written. If they agree that the employer will pay the house rent as part of the wage, and a duration is specified for this, then the employer is obligated to pay the full wage. However, if no duration is specified, this falls under monthly, daily, or annual hiring, where the wage is agreed upon on a monthly, daily, or annual basis without a total duration being specified. In this type of arrangement, once the employee begins work, the employer is obligated to pay the wage for the entire period.

If the employer is obligated to pay the wage but denies it, the employee may take their right from the employer's money without their knowledge, if they cannot obtain their right by any other means. However, if the employer is not obligated to pay the wage, it is forbidden for the employee to take anything from their money without permission, due to Allah’s saying: ﴿And do not consume your properties among yourselves through falsehood.﴾
