What is the ruling on adding the following conditions to the marriage contract: the wife's right to divorce in the event of the husband's adultery, or his physical or mental abuse of her or her family, or his marriage to another woman without her permission; postponing procreation until after performing the Hajj pilgrimage; the wife not paying any alimony to the husband in the event of divorce; the husband paying alimony to the wife only if there are children after divorce; and the decision regarding the wife's work and her whereabouts being hers alone?

The conditions of marriage vary between permissibility, detestability, invalidity, and disagreement. A woman may stipulate to her husband that he not harm her in companionship or clothing, that he not beat her severely, and that he not commit adultery. She may also stipulate delaying pregnancy for a benefit, such as Hajj, provided that she owns the expenses for her Hajj and her mahram. As for the issue of paying money for divorce, a woman does not pay it except in the case of khulʿ. She is entitled to maintenance during the iddah in a revocable divorce, and the children's maintenance is the father's responsibility. She may stipulate working as long as it is not forbidden or does not lead to something forbidden. However, stipulating that he not prevent her from going out and roaming is not valid as it contradicts the husband's qawamah, so the wife may go out with his permission. It is advisable to seek a person of religion and good character to facilitate marriage.
