What is the ruling on an employee preparing usurious loan documents for her company, and is her salary considered unlawful (haram)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

A company borrowing with interest (riba) is forbidden, and your assistance to the company in that loan is likewise forbidden, as it has been authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed the one who consumes riba, its payer, its scribe, and its two witnesses, and he said: 'They are all equal (in sin).'" What is obligatory upon you is to hasten to sincere repentance, which involves regretting what has passed, abandoning the sin out of fear of Allah, resolving not to return to it, and rectifying injustices. As for the monthly salary for the period of working on the usurious loan file, it is mixed money. It is obligatory to dispose of the amount that is most likely to clear one's conscience. It is recommended to perform many good deeds, for "indeed, good deeds do away with evil deeds." We also emphasize that a woman's work is not permissible except within Islamic legal guidelines.
