How can a disbeliever, who is certain of his destiny in Hellfire—on the Day of Judgment—ask for the hastening of the reckoning despite his knowledge of the severe torment of Hell, which no sane person would do?

Narrations have been reported indicating that the disbeliever will wish to enter Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection to escape the severity of the situation he is in. Among these is what Abu Ya'la and Ibn Hibban narrated from Ibn Mas'ud, raised (to the Prophet): "Indeed, the disbeliever will be bridled by sweat on the Day of Resurrection, so he will say: 'Relieve me, even if it is to the Fire.'" Al-Albani deemed these narrations weak.

This is explained by the disbeliever thinking that the distress of the situation is more severe than the torment of the Fire, and he may not know the intensity of its torment. It was also said that the disbeliever seeks deliverance from his current state, even if it is to something more severe than it, thinking that the expected torment might not occur.
