Will the alleviation of torment for the disbeliever on the Day of Resurrection be returned to Allah?

The punishment of disbelievers in the Hereafter varies based on their deeds. It may be lightened for some due to the paucity of their evil, or due to intercession on their behalf. This is supported by the Almighty's saying: "And for all are degrees from what they did," and by what happened to Abu Talib, whose punishment was lightened by the intercession of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He was in a shallow pool of fire, whereas had he not interceded for him, he would have been in the lowest depth of the Fire. Disbelievers differ in their disbelief just as the people of faith differ in their faith. Consequently, the inhabitants of Hellfire are not all at the same level of punishment; rather, they vary according to their deeds.
