Ibn Uthaymeen clarified that taking pictures without permission is analogous to forbidden eavesdropping; in fact, it may be even more prohibited because a picture is preserved and published, which makes the harm and temptation greater. Therefore, it is not permissible to take someone's picture without their permission, even if that person generally believes photography is permissible, especially if one knows that they dislike having their picture taken. The impermissibility of this act and its transgression against the rights of individuals must be clarified.
