Is it permissible to take out a loan from a bank to purchase land?

Usury is one of the greatest prohibitions, and it is not permissible to engage in it except out of a recognized, legitimate necessity. Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to take a usurious loan to purchase a plot of land unless there is an overwhelming necessity. It is permissible for him to take a benevolent loan or to purchase the plot through a Sharia-compliant murabaha.
