Is fasting three days sufficient as an expiation for excessive oaths and vows that were not fulfilled?

We advise against resorting to oaths or vows due to the hardship and embarrassment they may cause. Expiation is obligatory for every binding oath that has been broken, and fulfillment is obligatory for every vow that has been made. If the reason for the oath is the same and you have not expiated the first oath, then you owe a single expiation for all oaths. Likewise, if the vow is repeated for a single matter, or if you are unable to fulfill it due to an insurmountable inability, then a single expiation is required for all. The expiation consists of feeding ten poor persons with an average meal from what you feed your family, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. Whoever cannot find [the means to do] this, then [he must] fast for three days.
