To what extent is it permissible to insure houses after paying off their installments and owning them in full?
The believer must avoid all types of insurance and rely on Allah, while taking permissible safety precautions. Current insurance companies are of two types: The first is commercial and forbidden (gambling, usury, excessive uncertainty), and it is not permissible to deal with it except out of dire necessity, restricted to the extent of that necessity, as Allah states: (and He has explained to you in detail what He has forbidden you, except that to which you are compelled) and His saying: (He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful). The second type: companies based on cooperative insurance, but they often do not adhere strictly to Sharia guidelines. Therefore, it is more pious for a person to also avoid them if there is no need for them.
