What is the meaning of Ibn Mas'ud's saying, may Allah be pleased with him: "If one of you were to worship his Lord for seventy years between the Kaaba and the Maqam of Ibrahim, then come on the Day of Resurrection loving an oppressor, he would be resurrected with him in the fire of Hell," and does "resurrection" here mean eternal damnation in the Fire or merely entering it, and is it permissible to circulate such sayings for admonition?

The saying "Whoever loves an oppressor will be resurrected with them, and whoever loves a hater will be resurrected with them" has not been authentically narrated from Ibn Mas'ud. However, if it were proven, then the love for an oppressor that necessitates Hellfire is that which involves contentment with their oppression, in accordance with the verse: ﴿And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest you be touched by the Fire.﴾ This is supported by the hadith: "A person will be with whom they love." The threat of Hellfire would then depend on the type of oppression; if it is disbelief, such as being content with fighting Islam, its perpetrator has committed an act of disbelief. If it involves sins, such as wrongfully seizing wealth, then their ruling is like that of those who commit major sins; they will not remain eternally in Hellfire if they enter it.
