The merchant must count his trade goods and appraise them at their current market price, adding to them his cash liquidity at the end of each year. Then, he should pay one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) of the total. It is not a condition for profit to complete a full year (hawl) because it is ancillary to its principal. As for worn jewelry and used gold, there is no on them according to the majority of scholars.
