What is the ruling on the prayer of one who performed ghusl from janabah by wiping water over the body, with the exception of the private parts and the head, which were thoroughly washed, and then performed wudu?

Wiping the body is not sufficient to remove janabah (definition) (major ritual impurity); rather, water must be poured over the entire body. If the questioner sufficed with wiping without pouring water, then her prayers are invalid and must be made up, according to the majority of scholars. However, Ibn Taymiyyah holds that there is no need for repetition for one who was ignorant. It was obligatory for her to spread water over her entire body. If she feared harm from cold water, she should have heated it or bathed in a warm place. If she could not find a way and was harmed by the water, it is permissible for her to perform tayammum (definition) (dry ablution) after washing the parts of her body whose washing would not cause harm. Allah Almighty says: (And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it).
