For the shortening (qasr) of prayer, the travel distance must be 83 kilometers, and the travel must be permissible. The permissibility of qasr ends upon the traveler's arrival at his homeland, or a place where he has a wife with whom he has consummated the marriage, or if he intends to stay for four days or more. It is permissible to combine (jam') prayers for the traveler, whether he is in motion or stationary, based on the of Mu'adh in Muslim. However, it is not permissible to avail oneself of the concessions of travel, such as qasr and jam', if one intends to stay for four days or more.
