What is the ruling on missing congregational prayers when taking one's sister to her classes out of concern for her, or when driving or walking when the time for prayer is due? Are these valid reasons that permit missing the congregation or not?

The fatwa (definition) stated that fear for one's money or honor is an excuse that permits abstaining from congregational prayer. However, if there is no excuse, the default is to be diligent in performing prayer in congregation, as it is obligatory according to the preponderant opinion. If getting out of the car to pray would result in harm or missing an important benefit, then it is not obligatory. Congregational prayer may be performed anywhere, not only in the mosque.
