It is not permissible to practice birth control absolutely or to prevent pregnancy for fear of poverty or for reasons not recognized by Islamic law, as this goes against the Sharia (definition) and human nature, and weakens the Muslim nation. However, it is permissible to use methods of preventing or delaying pregnancy in individual cases due to a verifiable harm, such as the necessity of undergoing surgery, or for health reasons confirmed by a trustworthy Muslim doctor. This may even become obligatory if there is a danger to the mother's life. As for the general call for birth control, it is forbidden by Islamic law, and forcing it upon people is even more prohibited. There is no harm in working to reduce the harm of birth control programs, and it is permissible to lie to avert a greater evil or to achieve a greater benefit, with a preference for ambiguity if possible.
