What is the ruling on reciting Al-Fatihah and dedicating its reward to the deceased?

There is no evidence for dedicating Al-Fatiha or any other part of the Quran to the deceased, and it is obligatory to abandon this practice. It is permissible to supplicate for deceased Muslims and to give charity on their behalf, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: a continuous charity, knowledge from which benefit is derived, or a righteous child who supplicates for him." And based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) answer, "Yes," to the one who asked him about giving charity on behalf of his deceased mother. Also, Hajj and Umrah (definition) performed on behalf of the deceased, and settling their debts, benefit the deceased. As for being kind to the deceased's family and giving charity in the form of money or slaughtered animals, there is no harm in it if they are poor.
