The answer

Whoever breaks their fast during without a valid excuse must repent and seek forgiveness. If the breaking of the fast was due to sexual intercourse, then expiation is unanimously obligatory. It is, in order: freeing a slave; if unable to find one, then fasting for two consecutive months; if unable to do that, then feeding sixty poor people, giving each a mudd of the staple food of the land, which is approximately 750 grams. If it was by eating, drinking, or other means, then according to the majority of scholars, no expiation is required.
