Intentionally breaking the fast during the day in is a grave sin and a great transgression, and a violation of Allah's command. Whoever breaks his fast for one day in Ramadan without a valid excuse, even if he fasts the entire lifespan, it will not compensate for that day. Whoever intentionally breaks the fast must repent to Allah and make up the days he missed. If the breaking of the fast was due to sexual intercourse, then a severe expiation is required in addition to making up the day.
