Is the number seven, mentioned in the Hadith: “Seven whom Allah will shade in His Shade on the Day when there is no shade except His Shade,” intended to mean only seven specific individuals from the creation of Adam until the last of humanity, or everyone who possesses those characteristics?

The Hadith (definition) refers to seven categories of people who possess specific characteristics. Thus, anyone who embodies these characteristics falls under this great favor. The Hadith does not mean only seven individuals. Other categories have been mentioned in the Sunnah (definition) who also attain this favor. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar compiled them in his book "Ma'rifat al-Khisal al-Mawsilah ila al-Zilal" (Knowledge of the Qualities Leading to the Shade), and they reached approximately seventy qualities.
