Is it permissible to return a greeting with "Peace upon whoever follows guidance" in the event of disagreements?

Satan is keen on causing discord and instigating trouble among believers. A Muslim should not follow his footsteps and should repel his instigation with good words. It is forbidden for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three days, and the better of the two who have abandoned each other is the one who initiates the greeting. If a Muslim greets another, it is obligatory for the latter to return the greeting in kind or better, unless the Muslim is an innovator (practicing bid'ah) or a transgressor (fasiq), in which case it is permissible to refrain from greeting him as a form of discipline. A Muslim should not initiate a greeting to another Muslim with words that imply mockery, nor should he return a greeting with words used for greeting disbelievers.
