How do I rid myself of the desire to commit forbidden acts?

To remain steadfast in obedience and distance yourself from sins, be keen on suppressing the soul from its desires, repenting, and resolving never to return to sin. Seek refuge in Allah from Satan, and do not despair when you fall, but rather seek forgiveness and repent. Recall your shyness before Allah and your fear of His punishment, and remember His severe might. Study Allah's Names and Attributes. Frequently ask Allah to make you chaste and protect you, maintain your remembrances (dhikr), and occupy yourself with the Qur'an and Sunnah. Ponder over the harms of sins, and increase your remembrance of Allah and prayer; for they both prohibit indecency and evil. Accompany the righteous so they may aid you in righteousness and piety.
