Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to recite the Quran, touch it, and enter the mosque to attend lessons or teach the Quran, and is there a jurisprudential difference of opinion regarding this?

Scholars differ on whether a menstruating woman may recite the Quran: The majority forbid it, citing the hadith, "Neither a menstruating woman nor a person in a state of ritual impurity (junub) may recite anything from the Quran." However, the Malikis permit it absolutely as long as the bleeding continues, and Ibn Taymiyyah permits it, even deeming it obligatory if she fears forgetting (the Quran).

Regarding touching the Mus'haf (copy of the Quran), scholars agree on its prohibition, citing the Almighty's saying: {None touch it except the purified} (Quran 56:79), and the hadith, "None should touch the Quran except one who is pure." The Malikis, however, made an exception for a female teacher and a female student.

As for a menstruating woman entering the mosque, scholars agree on the prohibition of lingering therein, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "I do not permit the mosque for a menstruating woman or a person in a state of ritual impurity (junub)." They differ on the permissibility of passing through it: The Malikis and Hanafis absolutely forbid it, while the Shafi'is and Hanbalis permit it out of necessity, provided there is no fear of defiling it.
