Is it permissible to eat meat and poultry imported from the countries of the People of the Book?

You did well by refraining from eating the meat of animals slaughtered by the people of Japan, because the sacrifice of a polytheist is forbidden, with the exception of the People of the Book. For the sacrifice of the People of the Book to be permissible, it is stipulated that the slaughterer must not dedicate his slaughter to other than Allah, and that the slaughter must be performed according to Islamic law. If meat is imported from countries of the People of the Book and these conditions are met, then it is permissible to eat it. It is more cautious for a Muslim to limit their consumption to fish or to animals they are certain have been slaughtered Islamically.
