The answer

Scholars have differed regarding one who washes one foot and inserts it into thef khuff (leather sock), then washes the other and inserts it: is it permissible for him to wipe over the khuffayn (pair of khuff)? The majority of scholars said it is not permissible, based on the apparent meaning of the hadith: "Leave them, for I inserted them while they were pure." Whereas others used the same hadith to argue for permissibility. Ibn Taymiyyah chose the permissibility of wiping in this case, which is also the madhhab of Abu Hanifah, and a narration from Ahmad, and he considered it to be undoubtedly the correct view. Based on this, there is no need to repeat past prayers. In the future, it is recommended to complete the purification before wearing the khuffayn to avoid scholarly disagreement. If one wishes to make up the prayers as a precaution, then one should make up what brings certainty or strong presumption of discharging the obligation, and that should be according to one's capacity.
