It is forbidden to accuse others of sorcery without evidence. It is recommended to rely on Allah, to observe the obligatory prayers diligently, to abstain from forbidden acts, and to recite the morning and evening remembrances, as these are a protection against sorcery and envy. Ruqyah (Islamic incantation) is prescribed by reciting verses of sorcery and its nullification. The bewitched person may perform ruqyah upon himself or seek it from others. However, refraining from seeking ruqyah from others is better for the perfection of reliance on Allah. There is no contradiction with the hadiths that permit ruqyah, as the first indicates permissibility, and the second indicates preference for those who do not perform ruqyah themselves nor seek it from others out of reliance on Allah. Ruqyah with Quranic verses and remembrances is permissible, while what is forbidden is ruqyah with the words of disbelievers, or unknown words, or words whose meaning is not understood.
