What is the ruling on taking goods (tomatoes, cucumbers, juices, beverages) that have fallen from a transport vehicle and are found abandoned in the street or on a public road?

The ruling on discarded goods whose owner is unknown is the ruling on a lost item (Luqata), but since it often spoils and does not last for a year, it has a special ruling. It is of two types: 1. That which cannot be preserved by treatment: Such as prepared foods, fruits, and vegetables that are not dried. The finder is given the choice between eating it or selling it and keeping its price. If he leaves it until it spoils, he is liable for it. 2. That which can be preserved by treatment: Such as grapes and fresh dates. One should consider what is most beneficial for its owner. If drying it is beneficial, he should dry it. If drying requires an expense, he should sell some of it. If selling it is most beneficial, he should sell it and keep its price. If selling it is impossible and drying it is not possible, then eating it becomes necessary.

In all cases, if the finder fears the food will spoil, he should give it as charity, and if its owner comes, he should reimburse him.
