What is the ruling on one who has decided to marry and resolved not to marry unless he prays, but he has been in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) for some time due to obsessive-compulsive disorder and fears that his return to prayer and ritual bathing for the sake of marriage might be hypocrisy?

This person must perform ghusl (ritual bath), abandon the whispers (waswas), and strive against himself to be diligent in prayer with sincerity to Allah Almighty. It is not permissible for him to abandon prayer for fear of showing off (riyaa'), because abandoning an action for the sake of people is showing off, and performing an action for their sake is shirk (associating partners with Allah).
