What is the correct Islamic ruqyah, how does one recite upon water, is it permissible to add hot water to the recited-upon water for bathing in the bathroom, and is it permissible to use the herbs described by "the Shaykh" to wipe down the apartment?

Ruqyah (Islamic exorcism) must be performed using the names and attributes of Allah, His verses, and what has been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace be upon him. There is no harm in Ruqyah as long as it does not involve polytheism (shirk).

Conditions for Ruqyah include: it must be performed with the words of Allah or His names and attributes; it must be in the Arabic language to understand its meaning; and it must be believed that Ruqyah does not effect a cure by itself, but only by Allah's decree.

The Holy Quran, supplications (du'a), and remembrances (adhkar) are effective treatments for magic. It has been authentically reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, sought refuge with the two final chapters of the Quran (Al-Mu'awwidhatain) and recited Al-Fatihah.

Some scholars have permitted Ruqyah on water and drinking it. It is also permissible to write Ruqyah with permissible ink, then wash it off and drink the water.

One method of Ruqyah is to recite the legitimate Ruqyah over water or similar substances, then blow into it, or to recite over water and pour it over the patient.

There is no objection to bathing with Ruqyah water for someone in a state of minor ritual impurity, major ritual impurity, or menstruation. There is also no objection to adding pure water to the Ruqyah water or warming it.

The bewitched person must adhere to acts of obedience, avoid sins, maintain regular adhkar, have good expectations of Allah, be content with His decree, and be persistent in supplication.

It is permissible to use herbs and oils that repel devils in Ruqyah, such as sidr leaves, while reciting Ayat al-Kursy (the Verse of the Throne) and Al-Mu'awwidhat over them.

Self-ruqyah is preferable, and it is permissible to seek assistance from a shaykh whose piety and character are trusted.
