Does a mother have the right to custody of her two children after divorce if she lives with her stepfather, who is a strange man?

Divorce is a remedy of last resort, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The most hated of permissible things to Allah is divorce." If a divorce occurs, your mother-in-law's husband (i.e., your stepfather-in-law) becomes permanently forbidden to her [your ex-wife], based on the Almighty's saying: "And your stepdaughters under your guardianship, born of your wives to whom you have gone in." As for custody, the mother has a greater right to the child; if the boy reaches the age of seven, he is given the choice between his parents, while the girl goes to her father, unless there is an impediment such as the mother remarrying. In matters of custody, one should refer to the Sharia (definition) court or the Muslim community.
