The question

Is my conclusion correct that the creation of man was not a creation, but rather a formation or a transformation, and am I sinful if I ponder such topics?

The answer

Allah Almighty is the sole Creator, and everything besides Him is created. Creation can be ex nihilo (from nothing) or from created matter. Adam was created from clay, and his progeny from water. The heavens and the earth were created from matter. All creations, whether created directly or indirectly, are the handiwork of Allah. Even human actions and industrial products are considered created because they utilize created materials and are accomplished through created power. Ibn Taymiyyah clarified that Allah created the heavens and the earth over a period of time and from matter. The Quran does not mention the creation of anything from nothing, but rather the creation of a being after it was nothing, from existing matter.
