What is the ruling on working for a company that relies for its profits on competitions via text messages for downloading ringtones and logos?

The competitions in which the participant pays money to obtain a prize are considered a form of prohibited gambling (maysir), whether they are through SMS messages or otherwise. Their prohibition becomes even more severe if they are based on falsehood or promote sin. It is not permissible to work for a company that offers such competitions, and the earnings acquired from them are illicit (suḥt). However, if the company has other permissible activities, it is permissible to work in those permissible activities, and the salary obtained from them is lawful. The existence of other illicit funds for the company does not negate this.
