What is the ruling of the Sharia on the supplication: "O Allah, we do not ask You to avert Your decree, but we ask You for gentleness in it"?

Supplication (Du'a) is a great act of worship and an indication of the servant's poverty and need for Allah. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Du'a is worship," and "Nothing averts destiny except du'a," and "Indeed, du'a benefits against what has descended and what has not descended." A Muslim must be firm in supplication and not say: "O Allah, forgive me if You will," because Allah does what He wills and there is none to compel Him.
