What is the ruling on offering a camel as a sacrifice, and is it permissible for more or fewer than seven people to share in it?

There is no disagreement regarding the permissibility of sacrificing camels or cattle for Udhiyah. It is permissible for seven people to share in one sacrifice, based on what was narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that they slaughtered a camel on behalf of seven and a cow on behalf of seven, with the Prophet (peace be upon him). This is the view held by most scholars.

Some have stated the permissibility of ten people sharing in a camel, but not in a cow, citing the Hadith of Ibn Abbas that they shared a camel among ten. However, the Hadith of Jabir is more authentic.

The share of each participant is sufficient, whether they are from the same household or not, whether their intention is obligatory or voluntary, and whether their intention is to draw closer to Allah or to obtain meat.
