What is the meaning of the Almighty's saying: (As for the poets, the misguided follow them; do you not see that they wander aimlessly in every valley? And that they say what they do not do)?

The foremost interpretations of the verse are that poets are followed by the misguided, the rebellious devils, and disobedient jinn. And His saying, the Most High: "Do you not see that they wander aimlessly in every valley?" means that they go in every direction without purpose, deviating from the truth. This is a parable Allah struck for their unwarranted preoccupation with false praise and slander through lies and falsehood. And His saying, the Most High: "And that they say what they do not do" means that most of what they say is falsehood, for they boast of words and deeds that did not originate from them.
