Can envy occur if two people talk over the internet and one wishes the other's blessings to disappear, or is it a condition for envy to occur that one must see with their own eyes?

Scholars have differentiated between envy (hasad) and the evil eye ('ayn). Envy can occur from a distance, whereas the evil eye usually only occurs when the one casting it (al-'a'in) sees what they are afflicting with the evil eye. However, the evil eye can sometimes afflict through description without direct visual contact. The evil eye is a gaze of admiration mixed with envy from a malicious nature, which affects the object of the gaze. The envier (hasid) and the one casting the evil eye ('a'in) both share the tendency of the self to target someone they wish to harm. They differ in that the self of the one casting the evil eye is affected when confronting and observing the afflicted person, while the envier experiences this whether the object of envy is present or absent. Thus, the envier can envy something they have not seen, and its source is the burning of the heart and the desire for the cessation of blessings. As for the one casting the evil eye, they only afflict what they see and what already exists, and its source is the striking of the eye's gaze.
