Is a girl's interaction with her maternal aunt's husband, whom she considers like her father, by speaking with him, calling him, and visiting him, considered Islamically permissible, given her adherence to Hijab and avoidance of soft speech? If not, how can she discontinue this, especially since he has become accustomed to this communication?
The Islamic Sharia has set guidelines for a woman's interaction with a non-mahram man. The husband of a paternal aunt (amma) is not a mahram. Therefore, interactions with him must adhere to these guidelines. It is not permissible to habitually sit with him, talk to him, contact him, or frequently ask about his well-being, as this opens a door to temptation (fitna). There is no harm in exchanging greetings, making contact for a specific need, or inquiring about his well-being and family within these limits. However, being lenient in interactions, appearing frequently, and engaging in prolonged conversations, even in the presence of his wife, opens the door to temptation and subtle attachment, which is impermissible. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against leniency with relatives, saying: "Beware of entering upon women." When asked about al-hamw (the in-law), he said: "Al-hamw is death." Al-hamw refers to the husband's relatives who are not mahrams, and the fear from them is greater because they can be alone with the woman without being questioned. Therefore, it is obligatory to cease this leniency, and any conversation with him should be only out of necessity or need, closing every door to attachment and temptation.
