The question

Why was the pilgrim who hastens (al-Muta'ajjil) in Hajj not commanded to stone the Jamarāt on the last day on any of the first three days of Eid, so that he might attain the reward of the one who delays (al-Muta'akhkhir)? And is it considered an innovation for the one who hastens (al-Muta'ajjil) to stone 49 pebbles on the second day of Tashrīq instead of 70, in order to attain the reward of seventy?

The answer

Departing from Mina before sunset on the twelfth day is permissible for the pilgrim, and their Hajj is complete. As for whoever delays and spends the night in Mina on the thirteenth night, they have done well and must stone the Jamarat the following day. This is more virtuous as it aligns with the action of the Prophet (peace be upon him), based on the verse: "But whoever hastens off in two days - there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays - there is no sin upon him for him who fears Allah." (Quran 2:203). Whoever desires the virtue, let them spend that night in Mina and stone the Jamarat the following day. However, stoning the Jamarat before its prescribed time is not legislated.
